While initially restricted to just her mother, her disobedience soon earned her father's punishment. As her potential for magic became apparent, they often used exposure to the Dark Arts to bargain for good behavior. She would eventually learn to manipulate those around her, instead of simply stamping her proverbial feet. Her seemingly marvelous transformation drew the affection and praise of her parents. Since her younger sisters were then compelling the attention of her parents, she adopted a more dutiful daughterly role to maintain her pedestaled status. When her sisters were born, Bellatrix understood them to be little less than toys for her amusement. As they grew, so she grew to love them, though she never entirely considered the three of them equals. She saw it as her role to help raise them, to educate them, and protect them - especially the softer Narcissa. When Andromeda's inanely "progressive" ideas led the youngest Black sister to do the unspeakable, Bellatrix had never been more shamed. Unable to tolerate this association from being ascribed to her, she (like her parents) shunned her completely. The loss of one sister prompted her to more closely guard the other. She was raised with the understanding that she would eventually marry her cousin Sirius - a matter so taken for granted it was rarely discussed. However, when he rejected her along with the rest of the Blacks, her rage flared. She blamed him for subverting what she believed to be her destiny of preserving their family line. This was just another injustice she added to the ever-growing list of ills brought about by muggles, mudbloods, and the blood traitors who tolerated them. At 24 with her initial marriage partner no longer an option, Bellatrix focused all the more keenly on her service to the Dark Lord, indulging primarily with Rodolphus Lestrange, who had been her intermittent companion since her later years at Hogwarts. The passion he inspired in her was matched only by irritation he elicited, but as the years passed they had mellowed toward on another. A little. After months of Rodolphus threatening to propose, the Dark Lord instructed her to comply. They married when in November of 1978, when Bellatrix was 26. They took to delighting in riling each other up, goading a spat into violent climax. However, they often managed to keep up proper appearances in public. Matched in a unique sadistic streak, they complemented each other well, often serving side by side. Expectations of fidelity were realistic, but tactful. Unwilling to sit on the sidelines for anything, Bellatrix refused to even consider children until after the wizarding world was made a safe place in which to raise a pureblood son. Although she is comfortable using sex to get something from women, this is just an extension of her habitual manipulation. Physical description Height: 5'8 Weight: 60 kg Distinguishing marks: The Dark Mark on her left arm, which is almost always concealed by magic or clothing Give us a description of your character's appearance: Bellatrix has a tall, slender frame. Her large, heavy lidded eyes are the deep gray-blue of storm clouds, and draw the focus up from her comparatively small mouth. Her face is nearly always occupied by a haughty mask of boredom, particularly in public. Long, voluminous black locks have yet to acquire their spiral curls. Considering herself a true aristocrat and creature of fashion, Bellatrix is loathe to appear in anything markedly muggle. Give us a description of your character's personality: Bellatrix is power-hungry, clever, and aggressive, which fuels what she perceives to be a perfectly justified level of narcissism. Her ego is fueled by the praise and admiration of others, as well as trumping opponents of any kind. She takes great offense when those she considers beneath her make any attempt to secure what she perceived to be rightfully hers. While highly susceptible to veneration and flattery, she honestly trusts a painfully few number of people. Among those she considers to be her peers she allows her disdain for the lower rungs of society to shine through, while in public she in more reserved. Her temper comes fast and hard, but she is capable of sustaining a grudge to the end of her days. Exercising her sadism and satisfying her lust for blood is profoundly gratifying and her most keen artistic expression. Also a singularly committed witch, her support, loyalty, and dedication to a desire, cause, or person is rarely diminished. She epitomizes hedonism, a fact she takes some pride in. She fails to observes many of the social niceties, completely confident that her blood purity and former wealth excuse her from such requirements except perhaps in formal settings. However, she never fails to lord and position or status over those beneath her, often expecting to receive a level of decorum she is unwilling to give out. This is partly because she only the Dark Lord ever truly deserved her submission, and in his absence few others measure up. History Please give us a brief history of what happened to your character past canon to bring them to this point. After being killed by Molly Weasley, Bellatrix is revived. Incoherently making her way as far from Hogwarts as possible, she regains awareness on the edges of Hogsmeade. She swiftly apparates to Black Manor to find it empty and appearing as if it had been closed for some time. Taking the floo to Rodolphus' bedroom, she finds that Lestrange Manor is deserted as well. Finally, she apparates to Malfoy Manor, hoping someone there can give her answers. Resurrected Characters If your character is one of the resurrected, what is their last memory and why have they returned at their particular age?: Bellatrix' last memory is the night the Dark Lord took a keen personal interest in her development. He expressed His belief in her great potential, laying the groundwork to cultivate what would eventually become her violent, frenzied loyalty. This marks the beginning of her ascent to his right hand, and it is this moment she would cling to for the rest of her life, this happy, glorious moment, to see her through the trials and tribulations she would face for her Lord. At 25, she was in the early stages of her courtship with Rodolphus. At this point in her life she was markedly aware of the promise of the future, and certain of her destined greatness. Why have they been brought back? Lucius' need of her draws her back. She also comes to believe that she has returned to save the wizarding world from its destruction, which would surely follow if it were opened to muggles. Plotting How does your character feel about the post-war world?: Appalled. She can barely believe the Dark Lord ultimately failed in his efforts, and finds the current treatment of some of the purest wizarding families utterly revolting. Although profoundly devoted to her departed Lord and the cause, she does not remember a time when her Death Eater status was nothing more than an unconfirmed rumor to the general population. Her primary objective is self-preservation. What short and long term goals do you have for your character?: Short term - Apart from trying to understand how and why the world she knew has so drastically changed she will be looking for means of survival. Long term - These depend a bit more on the major plot arcs within the game. If a Death Eater presence precipitates, she would be keenly driven to gather them and spur them on toward reclaiming power. If such conditions arise she would frequently seek hostilities against the Weasley family, as she would be aware that Molly had killed her. She will publicly, passionately oppose muggle inclusion, viewing such action to be her destiny - to save the wizarding world, even if it is from itself. | |||||||||
